Festival Volunteers Needed!

We have started recruitment of festival volunteers!

What is involved?
Ushers will be asked to help orientate visitors/ ticket holders into or out of events. The festival will be taking place in: The Science Gallery, St Werburghs, Christ Church Cathedral, The Irish Writers Centre and St Patrick’s Hospital. Ushers will be expected to provide information on the specific event which they are at as well as the festival programme in general.

Time commitment
Potential volunteers can login into a timetable for the festival and can assign themselves to act as ushers in as many or as few events as they like. Applicants are asked to be mindful of; their own commitments before agreeing to volunteer and that some events run at the same time in different locations.

Do I need any prior experience?
Potential volunteers do not need any prior experience or knowledge. A festival open day will provide background information of Jonathan Swift and the events taking place during the festival. Prior knowledge of Swift is a bonus. Potential volunteers will be asked to actively engage with members of the public and should be mindful of this when applying. The role may also involve being on your feet for extended periods of time.

Who will be available to support me?
Volunteers’ primary point of contact in the Cathedral is the volunteer co-ordinator Andrew Smith. He will be contactable throughout the duration of the festival. Owing to the fact that some events will run at the same time as others it may not be possible for him to be present onsite however a member of the Cathedral staff will also be available to provide support should it be needed.

What do I get?
Festival volunteers will be given free tickets to attend the event at which they are acting as ushers for. If this event is free of charge then they can choose another event to attend (expect for the gala dinner). They will receive discounted rates on all events happening during the festival and will also be given free festival name badges and tee-shirts.

What do I do next?
Email Andrew directly at to apply.
