Swiftly into a Culwick Christmas

The Culwick Choral Society (founded 1898), which has a long association with St Patrick’s Cathedral, is proud to bring this year’s Jonathan Swift Festival to a close with a mix of festive and seasonal music featuring pieces from Swift’s time along with a few more recent pieces such as Britten’s A Ceremony of Carols, McDowell’s Christus Natus Est and Gritton’s arrangement of Follow that Star and Santa Claus is coming to town .

There will, of course, be a few excerpts from Handel’s Messiah which was first performed in Dublin in 1742 and although he initially forbade it, Dean Swift eventually allowed members of St Patrick’s cathedral choir to be part of that premiere in the “Musick Hall” in Fishamble St.

The Culwick will be joined by St Patrick’s Cathedral Girls’ Choir  and they will also perform several pieces on their own.
